Robert Hamilton was born in Glasgow and became intrested in dance at a very early age. He worked within the British assocation of teachers of dance examinations and at 17 achieved his association status.
He then attended the Doreen Bird college of performing arts (one of the top 3 collages in London) where he was challenged in various dance diciplines and introduced to a supporting framework of theatrical studies. He obtained one of 2 full scholarships awarded each year. He received this for 3 years, which enabled qualifications of the highest calibre from R.A.D. and I.S.T.D.
He was also principle dancer with the Bird theater company working with renowned choreographers such as Yuri Yhukoa of the B.R.B. and Derrick Randolph of Scapino ballet. He toured Europe lecturing and taking workshops to enable children to create and perform cabarets.
Robert made his debut in Londons westend by joining CATS and becoming Mr Mistofillies. The producers of a original production called “The Great Dance” spotted him. He left the show not only to choreograph but to also dance the lead in a filmed version for Columbia tristar. On complection Robert performed in European tour of FAME, with added responsibility of being the ‘dance captin’. On returning to London he played the part of Antonio in Dick Whittingtonthe musical choreographed by Gillian Lynne.
He has also performed within the industry; the Brit awards with Robbie Williams, the Generation Game, Saturday Night Fever, TV2 Sweden, Give Your Mate a Break, Stars in Your Eyes and the Royal Variety Performance. Robert expanded his knowledge in ballet and jazz by joining Pineapple and Dance Works for further training and being intriduced to established professional wordwide choreographers.
Developing his interests in choregraphy Robert became a guest teacher at Doreen Bird college of performing arts and the London Studio Centre. Here he trained and developed the students perfomance skills to a professional level. Moving towards choreography he joined International Cruise Liners producing various productions.
He then toured as a freelance choreographer where his individual style became well known within the commercial and contemporary industries within Europe. Robert choreographed trade shows and promotions for TAG, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior and Elizabeth Emmanuel. On his return to London Robert became a resident teacher in jazz and contemporary dance at Pinapple Dance Studios providing training at all levels and continuing his passion for choreography.
Now back in Glasgow, Robert is proud to have opened Dancepoint, a musical theater school, which offers part-time and full-time foundation courses for children and young adults of all ages. Dancepoint offers allround training in a unique environment of sheer professionalism... and fun!
Roberts aim for dance and theatre in Glasgow is to bring all performance aspects together, to nurture talents and develop characters and individuality. Dancepoint offers an ongoing training development in dance and theatre education starting from musical theatre for children.
Children are trained under the educational dance syllabi of I.S.T.D. and R.A.D. where examinations are built from pre-primary through structured levels, progressing to a standard requied to undertake recognised professional performing arts course.
